Research Interests

Alan Drew is Professor of Condensed Matter and Head of the Condensed Matter and Materials Physics Group (CCMMP), a visiting professor at Sichuan University in China and a visiting research scientist at the ISIS Facility, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. His main research interests are using spin sensitive probes situated at central facilities to characterise and understand the fundamental properties of materials, as well as laboratory based research (e.g magnetic, structural and electrical characterisation, thin film growth, raman/IR spectroscopy, electro/photo luminescence). His main interests are understanding spin and charge carrier dynamics in organic materials and the properties of materials with novel quantum mechanical states. One particular focus currently is on understanding  the dynamics of electronic excitations brought about by optical absorption, which is the central theme of his European Research Council funded project.
